Some News About the Sims 3
I’ve been a Sims gamer since the very first Sims game was released many, many years ago. In fact, to date, I’m only missing one Stuff Pack from all the Sims and Sims 2 releases — reminds me to go out and get it, eh? So when I picked up the newest expansion for Sims 2 (Freetime — loving it!) and saw the preview of Sims 3 on the free in-game PC gift, I wasn’t sure how to feel. Afterall, I love my Sim 2 families… some that I’ve been developing for years now. So how could I leave them behind to move on to the next game in the series?
So of course, when I saw a REAL “World Exclusive” preview on the cover of Games for Windows magazine today, I devoured the article right then and there. I have to say that my impression of the game blew away all my concerns instantly. And I’m completely stoked about how this game is developing!

Quick Article Highlights
Here’s a few of the new key changes that I read about, a lot of them giving the upcoming Sims 3 a very roleplay game feel:
- Less micromanagement of your Sim — there will only be 3 attribute bars to keep up with rather than the 8 we have now… so things like bladder, comfort, hygiene, while still important, will be more in the background now
- More focus on developing the neighborhood as a whole — NPC Sim families grow and change simultaneously to your own
- Gamer’s ability to interact with items in the Sim world instead of ordering them to do each little nitpicky thing — you want the trash on the floor picked up… then you can actually opt to pick it up for the Sim!
- More physical Sim customization — for example, instead of choosing between fat or fit in your Sim, there are various degrees of body types you can choose by using an adjustable slider
- More personality customization — they’ve expanded Sims personality to allow them to have five character Traits such as: Athletic, Friendly, Easily Bored, Good, Evil, Neat, Conversationalist, Paranoid, Light Sleeper, Worrywart, Hot-headed, Rude, Natural Cook, Outdoorsperson, Brave, Green Thumb… and many more!
- Instead of having aspirations, there will be an optional Dream/Promise system that allows you to choose to follow up on your Sim’s Dreams and turn them into lifelong goals… but only if you want to
- Moodlets — like little buffs and debuffs in mood depending on day to day events that take place in your Sim’s life
- Opportunities — somewhat like mini-quests that you can choose to undertake with your Sim (think MMORPG style)
I also have to say that I’m thrilled to see that though there seems to be a bit of an upgrade in graphics, Maxis chose not to make the Sims 3 super realistic. In fact, they stuck very close and true to the style of the Sims 2 — a very unique blend of realism and character that I really enjoy. The Sims and their environments look more detailed, of course, but it really seems a lot has gone into their body language and facial expressions.

To sum it up, it sounds like it’s going to be a blast! The Sims 3 site is slated to open on March 19… so check by there for more information. I’m sure there will be plenty to go around!

Oooohh, I can hardly wait! That picture of the living room is way nicer than the one inside my own house! I love Sims 2, but I had to cut back, because it somehow makes the hours pass amazingly fast, and I don’t get anything else done. I’ll have to put Sims 3 on my wish list, though!
GeekMom’s last blog post..After the tantrum, a wonderful blog review made my day!
Same here! I thought that picture of the living room was amazing for a game. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t a photo!
I just hope they don’t boost the graphics too much that I’d need an upgrade to play it. Most of the time, though, Sims games seem more RAM intensive than anything else.
Reading this just made me so excited!! I can’t wait until it finally comes out. That picture looks amazing!
I recently had put Sims 2 on the back burner since so many things were going on elsewhere, and now I at least have the Sims 3 to look forward to.

It’s great to hear from other bloggers who are Sims fans! So far, it seems like most people are responding positively to the ideas presented in the Sims 3. I wish I could have recapped it all as well as the actual article did. But as I said, the main site opens tomorrow and will probably have a ton of great information!

I love playing Sims as well. I like the original one better than the Sims 2 so I am hoping Sims 3 kicks things up a notch and it sounds like it will.
