“Just what you want to be, you will be in the end…”

I’ve decided to start a weekly focus for this blog on the topic of musicians and groups that have inspired me over the years. I’m going to try to post about it every Tuesday… and I figured I’d kick off the series featuring the music group that has influenced me more than any other — The Moody Blues.
The Moody Blues is a classic/progressive rock band known for their symphonic rock sound. The group was formed in the 60’s, hit it big in the 70’s, had a few hit songs in the 80’s and somewhat quited down after that. Though the group is older now, they still an active tour band — Syn and I went to see them in concert just last year!
See this site for more comprehensive information about the band.
Each and every heart it seems,
Is bounded by a world of dreams…
Each and every rising sun,
Is greeted by a lonely one.
I was raised in a household that listened to classic rock all of my life, so I had heard the Moodies’ music and knew it fairly well even at a young age… I simply never knew the name of the band until a little later in life. I really discovered them through the program A Night at Red Rocks when I was in high school… and after that, I was a fan for life.

The Moodies have a symphonic-classic rock sound some people might have to learn to get used to. But for me, it was the depth of their poetic lyrics and the ideas of hope, peace and love that inspired a young adult mind to search for the hidden truths of the universe and embark on a quest for the inner self. Idealistic, maybe, but it was the positive vibes that branched out into my life when things were dark… and inspired my writing, worlds and characters to become what they are today. Even if I’m not as avid a fan as I was back ten years ago, each and every creation is still touched with their message for a hope of a better world and the search for the goodness within mankind. In fact, I still name books in Dreigiau after their albums.
Make a promise take a vow,
And trust your feelings its easy now.
Understand the voice within,
And feel the changes already beginning…
Back in the days before the internet, chatrooms, email and IMs, I had tons of snail mail pen pals from all over the country who were fellow Moody fans. We would write each other, send our band photos and art, encourage each other and write about life and the things we loved. It was always an exciting thing to be a part of the Moody crowd — I often submitted my artwork and writing to many of the fan magazines and saw it published there. I still have every issue safe in a magazine holder on my shelf. The people who surrounded the band were nearly as dear to me as the music itself.

I Know You’re Out There Somewhere (Pt2)
New Horizons
English Sunset
I once got to thank Justin in person for the inspiration that he and the band has given me. So again, I give them the thanks of a life time. I know I would be a different person if I had never found their music, their message and their magic.
